Commonly used transformer cores are generally made of silicon steel sheets. The iron core of the transformer is made of silicon steel because silicon steel itself is a magnetic substance with strong magnetic permeability, and it can generate a large magnetic induction in the energized coil. Zidianjun will introduce the common knowledge of silicon steel to you today.
Silicon steel is a kind of steel containing silicon and is a soft magnetic material widely used in the electrical field. Silicon steel for electrical use is often rolled into large sheets or strips of standard size, commonly known as silicon steel sheets, which are widely used in motors, generators, transformers, electromagnetic mechanisms, relay electronic devices and measuring instruments.
Silicon is a good deoxidizer for steel. It combines with oxygen to convert oxygen into stable SiO2 that is not reduced by carbon, avoiding the lattice distortion of iron due to doping with oxygen atoms. Silicon becomes a solid solution in alpha iron to increase the resistivity and at the same time help to separate out the harmful impurity carbon. Therefore, the addition of impurity-containing iron to silicon can improve permeability, reduce coercivity and iron loss. However, the increase of silicon content will make the material hard and brittle, and the thermal conductivity and toughness will decrease, which is unfavorable for heat dissipation and mechanical processing. Therefore, the silicon content of general silicon steel sheet does not exceed 4.5%.
According to the manufacturing process and use, electrical steel is divided into three categories: hot-rolled silicon steel, cold-rolled electrical steel and special-purpose silicon steel.
